every breathtaking vista. Embark on a self-drive adventure starting from Bishkek, where you’ll navigate the dramatic Boom Gorge, marvel at the serene beauty of Lake Issyk-Kul, and enjoy a tranquil sunset boat ride.
But this journey is far from ordinary. It’s a thrilling exploration of Central Asia’s hidden gems—watch eagle hunters in their element, discover the artistry of Kyrgyz felt carpets, and navigate rugged desert trails, immersing yourself in the rich, untamed soul of Kyrgyzstan.
Day 1. Airport – Bishkek
Arrive in Bishkek, the vibrant capital of Kyrgyzstan. Check into your hotel and take some time to rest after your journey. In the evening, explore the bustling Ala-Too Square and enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2. Bishkek – Burana – Chon Kemin (180 km, 5 hours)
At 10:00 pick-up cars from hotel and start our journey. Our journey begins with a visit of the Burana Tower. The Burana Tower is an ancient minaret in the Chuy Valley in the north part of Kyrgyzstan.
The tower with funerary monuments, earthworks, remains of the castle and three mausoleums – that’s all what last out of the ancient Balasagyn town that was founded by Karakhanids at the end of the ninth century. Lunch with the local Dungan family.
Then we are going to the biggest valley in Kyrgyzstan. We will drive through the mountain gorge.
Upon arrival at the guest house in Tar Suu you will have a horse-drawn carriage ride through this beautiful village.

You will be able to relax during a leisurely ride and enjoy the fresh air. You can also try a horse riding with the help of a local guide.
In the evening you will enjoy the national folklore show accompanied by traditional Kyrgyz instruments. You will discover music reflecting the life of Kyrgyz nomads. Dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 3. Chon Kemin – Cholpon-Ata (220 km, 4 hours)
After a hearty breakfast at the guest house, we start at 9.00, pre- warming up our “iron horses”. We pass the Boom gorge and enter the Issyk-Kul region, the homeland of the biggest lake of Kyrgyzstan.

Lake Issyk-Kul was a stopover on the Great Silk Road, the land route of travellers from the Far East to Europe. Also, for us, it will become a place of respite on our “Great Winter Path”.
As you leave the tranquil shores of Lake Issyk-Kul behind, the journey to Cholpon-Ata promises a continuation of breathtaking landscapes and cultural treasures. The drive takes you along the northern edge of the lake, where the road winds through picturesque villages and offers stunning views of the turquoise waters framed by snow-capped
mountains. Then we continue along the northern shore of the lake to Cholpon Ata.
Lunch at the restaurant. After, we turn to have a boat trip for 1 hour at the Issuk-Kul Lake. Dinner at the restaurant.

Day 4. Cholpon Ata – Grigoriev – Semenov Gorges – Karakol (180 km, 3-4 hours)
Breakfast at the hotel. Leaving the serene ambiance of Cholpon-Ata, your journey takes you deeper into the heart of Kyrgyzstan’s natural wonders as you head towards the Grigoriev and Semenov Gorges.
These twin gorges, renowned for their dramatic landscapes, invite you to explore their lush valleys, crystal-clear streams, and alpine meadows dotted with grazing livestock. The drive through these gorges is a visual feast, with towering pine forests and rugged cliffs framing the road.

These places are considered as the most famous attractions in Issyk-Kul. You can hear the noise of the mountain river with glacial clear water, which flow down to the valley. The middle part of the valley is crowned with two snowy peaks: the peak of Kum-Bel (4200 m) and Eshenbulak peak (4647m).
After immersing yourself in the untouched beauty of these gorges, the adventure continues towards Karakol. This charming town, nestled at the eastern tip of Lake Issyk-Kul, is a gateway to some of the region’s most iconic sights. In Karakol, you can discover the town’s rich cultural tapestry, from the colorful Dungan Mosque to the historic wooden Russian Orthodox Church.
As the day ends, settle into Karakol, where the blend of history, culture, and stunning landscapes creates a perfect setting for the next leg of your Kyrgyzstan adventure.

Day 5. Karakol – Ski Base Karakol – Karakol (70 km, 2 hours, round trip)
Your time in Karakol begins with an exhilarating excursion to the Ski Base Karakol, a winter sports haven nestled in the Terskey Alatau mountains. As you ascend the slopes, you’re greeted with panoramic views of snow-draped peaks and dense pine forests, a paradise for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Whether you’re carving down the powdery trails or simply soaking in the alpine serenity, the Ski Base offers a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty.

Day 6. Karakol – Djety-Oguz – Barskoon – Skazka – Bokonbaevo – Kochkor (320 km, 6 hours)
Early Departure. A long day ahead with several visits along the way such as Jeti Oguz (from Kyrgyz it is translated – “Seven Bulls”). Dense vegetation covers red rocks of the gorge. The name “Seven Bulls” follows from Red Rocks, being on against sanatorium, which known for the medical hot springs.

Next place is Barskoon gorge, is known by beautiful and powerful waterfalls. The most famous are the Bowl of Manas, the Leopard Tears, located at an altitude of 2,500 m above sea level, at a distance of 12 km from Barskoon village.
Lunch at Tamga village. After we visit Skazka canyons, which signify Fairytale. Here you can find objects of surprising shapes and sizes. A real skyscraper or an animal may appear in front of you while you walk and explore this place.
In Bokonbaevo, you will get acquainted with an eagle hunter with his bird of prey and appreciate the speed and alertness of the prey. It is one of the oldest traditions of the Kyrgyz nomads. Overnight and dinner in Nomad Lodge Hotel.

Day 7. Kochkor – Kyzyl Oi – Suusamyr – Bishkek (360 km, 7 hours)
The morning starts with a traditional felt show presenting all the secrets of making Shyrdaks, the Kyrgyz felt carpets listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Making felt products is an ancient craft of the nomadic people. The goal of the day is to return to Bishkek.
We overcome the Kyzart pass (2664 m.) and stop in Kyzyl Tuu village for lunch. After lunch we will continue our way to the capital, we will pass the Suusamyr valley and the mountain pass Too Ashuu (3500 m.)
From this pass, there is a clear view over the whole valley with wonderful white snow and fresh air. In the evening dinner at local restaurant.

- Average temperatures during this season from +10*C to -20*C. Warm clothes and thermos are obligatory.
- Cars could get stuck in the snow; it depends on the weather conditions and the amount of snow at the time of the tour. Each car has a set of towing equipment and a shovel. It is a part of adventure and it can cause time-plan changes or itinerary changes.
